Székely György, kötetünk szerzöje, közel húsz éven át gyakorló banktisztviselőként szerzett ismereteit foglalja össze e könyvben. A kötet témájául szolgáló elméleti és gyakorlati pénzügyeket és banküzleteket a Közép-európai Egyetem, Graduate School of Business (korábban, IMC Graduate School of Business) oktatójaként tanítja. Előszavában a szerzö így szól a könyvről: „Ez a könyv pénzröl és bankról szól – elméletben és föként gyakorlatban – mindazon olvasók számára, akik a „banküzem” tanulmányozására adják a fejüket. További szándékom, hogy e könyv diplomázó pénzügyes egyetemi hallgatók, MBA várományosok és olyan pénzügyi szakemberek kézikönyve legyen, akik mindennapjaink pénzügyeiröl szerzett ismereteiket szélesíteni és mélyíteni kívánják. A mű kiadásával azt a célt tűztem magam elé, hogy annak használói, tanulmányaik végeztével, képesek legyenek: megérteni a pénz lényegét és elméleti vonásait, megismerni a pénzügyi intézmények fejlödését és feladatait, felismerni és enyhíteni a pénzügyi müveletek kockázatait, a hitelfelvétel költségeit és a hitelezés hozamát kalkulálni, biztonsággal eljárni a pénzügyi piacok és azok különféle okmányainak tekintetében.” The author, György Székely, summarizes in this book the knowledge he had acquired during his nearly twenty years as a practicing banker. Currently he is Senior Lecturer at the Graduate School of Business of Central European University (formerly, IMC Graduate School of Business), where he teaches the theory and practice of money and banking. As the author emphasizes in the preface: „This book is partly about the theory and mainly about the practice of money and banking, targeted to readers who want to have a basic or improved understanding of the „business of banking.” Furthermore, the book can serve as a reference work for graduates of banking and finance courses, for MBA candidates, as well as for finance professionals who wish to broaden and deepen their knowledge about the role of finance in everyday life. The objective of the author is that a reader, having completed this work, would • understand the basic concepts and principles of money, • be aware of the evolution and functions of financial institutions, • be able to identify and manage financial risks, • be competent to calculate the true cost of borrowing and the yields earned when lending, • become familiar with the intricacies of financial markets, institutions and documents, and thereby be in a position to handle his financial affairs with increased confidence and safety.”
